The School of Foreign Languages (SFL) belongs to the Institute of Social Technology,
Suranaree University. Our faculty are active teachers and researchers in different areas
of language teaching, including discourse analysis, pragmatics, curriculum design,
teaching materials development, and technology-enhanced language teaching, for
instance.

At the undergraduate level, the School of Foreign Languages serves as the language
center responsible for foundation English courses for non-English majors. In addition
to English foundation courses, we also offer Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese
language courses as electives which are taught by native speakers.
The School offers two international graduate programs: Master and Doctor of
Philosophy in English Language Studies with a concentration in three areas, i.e.
language analysis, language teaching, and technology enhanced language learning. The
doctoral program is recognized as the first PhD program in language teaching to be
offered in Thailand. Graduates of the program are well-equipped with both theoretical
and research knowledge so that they are able to enter any field related to English and
language learning/teaching. Since 2003, about 269 foreign students from Cambodia,
Cameroon, China, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos, the Philippines, and the
US have enrolled on the program at both master’s and doctoral levels.
In addition to its curricular programs, the School sponsors lectures, conferences for the
university community and the general public, e.g. enhancing the professional
development for primary and secondary school teachers.
