📢 SUT Cares for Your Safety! Learn the Universal “RUN – HIDE – FIGHT” Survival Protocol for Active Shooter Incidents.
Emergency and violent situations are completely unpredictable. However, being prepared and knowing the proper survival responses can drastically increase your chances of survival.
Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) is deeply concerned for everyone’s safety. We encourage all students and staff members to understand the global standard survival protocol for Active Shooter situations.
Remember these steps! If faced with an unexpected emergency, follow “RUN – HIDE – FIGHT”:
🏃♂️ 1. RUN – The Best First Option
If there is an accessible escape path, attempt to evacuate immediately. Leave your belongings behind—do not worry about personal property or look back. Once you reach a safe area, immediately call 191 or contact SUT Security.
1.1 Look Around: Assess the situation and identify safe exit routes.
1.2 Move Away: Evacuate as far from the attacker as possible.
1.3 Leave Belongings: Abandon your personal items.
1.4 Help Others: Assist others to escape if you can safely do so.
1.5 Call for Help: Call 191 or security immediately.
⚠️ Caution: Do not run toward the attacker. Keep running—do not stop, walk casually, or look back.
🚪 2. HIDE – If Evacuation is Impossible
If your escape route is blocked, secure your location. Find an enclosed room, lock the door, turn off the lights, close the blinds, and barricade the door with heavy furniture. Most importantly, silence your cell phone (including vibration), stay completely quiet, and avoid hiding in visible spots (e.g., behind glass doors or under open tables).
2.1 Find Solid Cover: Look for thick walls or heavy furniture.
2.2 Lock the Door: Secure and barricade the entrance.
2.3 Stay Quiet: Silence cell phones and remain completely silent.
2.4 Stay Out of Sight: Keep low and stay hidden.
⚠️ Caution: Do not hide in easily visible areas like behind glass doors, and do not hide under open tables (as you would during an earthquake).
🥊 3. FIGHT – Your Last Resort
If you cannot run or hide, and your life is in imminent danger, commit to disrupting or incapacitating the shooter. Stay composed, act together if others are present, and use nearby objects as improvised weapons (e.g., fire extinguishers, chairs, or pens). Target vulnerable areas (eyes, throat, face, or joints) to disarm the attacker, then immediately flee.
3.1 Stay Calm: Keep your head clear and focus on survival.
3.2 Work Together: Coordinate with others nearby to overpower the threat.
3.3 Use Objects as Weapons: Utilize chairs, fire extinguishers, or heavy objects.
3.4 Target Vulnerable Areas: Strike the attacker’s eyes, throat, face, or joints.
3.5 Flee Immediately: Escape at the very first opportunity.
⚠️ Note: Fighting is strictly a last resort.
💡 What You Should Always Do:
Always note emergency exits upon entering any building.
Follow updates only from reliable, official news sources.
Participate in university emergency active shooter drills.
Look out for your peers and those around you.
🛑 CRITICAL WARNINGS (DO NOT DO):
DO NOT confront or approach the attacker.
DO NOT take photos, videos, or live-stream the event.
DO NOT post real-time status/location updates on social media.
DO NOT re-enter dangerous areas.
📌 Important: Never live-stream or post on social media during an active incident, as it may reveal your location to the shooter. When law enforcement arrives, keep your hands empty, raised high, and visible at all times, and strictly follow all police instructions.
Staying calm and alert is key during any crisis. Always locate emergency exits when entering buildings, and let’s keep each other safe.

Look around.
Move as far away from the attackers.
Leave belongings your possession.
Help others if you can so your own life.
Call for help Call 191 immediately.
Find Solid Cover.
Lock door.
Silence phone and do not make noise.
Don’t reveal.
Stay calm.
Work together if there are with chances of survival.
Use the objects chair, extinguisher, or other them.
Strike weak points areas of the attacker, such as hex, or joints.
Run at the first chance.
